I have a few go to Ayurvedic herb mix when it comes to increasing my energy level. This is meant to educate you on alternatives to caffeine and sports drinks that are widely used in work spaces and sports. Golden Milk has been at the top of my list when I am in the mood for a warm drink. I enjoy the smooth taste it has and I could drink it every day. One of the main ingredients is Turmeric. Turmeric is part of the ginger family and it actually resembles it but has a golden flesh. Turmeric is a wonderful anti-inflammatory property and is becoming more popular here in the United States although it has was first discovered in India and Africa. It is widely used in Indonesia and South east Asia as well.. Turmeric has become one of the highest demanded herb in the wellness arena.
WHAT IS ASHWAGANDHA
In this post, I want to dive more in to one of the ingredients that I encourage my clients to add to their golden milk, or as a supplement before eating their meal. ASHWAGANDHA (pronounced: Ashwa-Gan-Da) is a very respected Ayurvedic herb that has been used for thousands of years to improve the longevity of one’s life. It is a great herb known to prevent sickness, reduce stress and reduce anxiety. Its resemblance is ginseng but of course its more effective and healthier because of its potency and its sustainability. Ashwagandha has so many surprising benefits and uses that you would appreciate. Like I always tell my clients… seek out alternative options before you need it. And this herb would be one if you are willing to start making a list of Ayurvedic herbs to turn to. You don’t have to wait until you are sick before using it. You can use it as a healthy supplement.
BENEFITS OF ASHWAGANDHA
Ashwagandha is grounding so if you find yourself worrying, having racy thoughts, not able to be calm and struggle to focus on a task then you should consider taking this supplement. I’m excited about writing about Ahswagandha because not many people know that it is also a natural pain reliever. It is very effective for those suffering from arthritis. Its also very helpful for those suffering from ADHD and dementia. Can you believe there is actually something that can help reverse forget-fullness?! And that is not all. Ashwagandha increases stamina in men and women. So you don’t have to continue putting off those long bike rides or runs anymore.
I hope to bring more recipes that include this herb. You can review my previous post for my Golden milk recipe that includes Ashwagandha. Note, that Greg McQuade from Virginia This Morning CBS 6 asked about why I added ground black pepper to this recipe. I realized that I was so nervous that I didn’t get to the question fully. I add black pepper because anytime you use turmeric, you should pair it with black pepper so that the turmeric can digest in your system properly.
This goes for whether you are cooking with it or adding it to a drink.

Looks good! I usually make golden milk as a cocoa and have had Ashwagandha tea, but haven’t tried golden milk Ashwagandha. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome Tiffany! That’s another one I love. You can see a similar recipe here: https://paulinestephens.com/ayurvedic-coffee-alternatives/
So interesting! I do have a question: is this a supplement you can take on a regular basis, or would I need to space the consumption of it?
Selene, it all depends on the recommended dosage. Follow the instructions on the label because its been tested on how much you should safely take.
I am so happy I came across this. I drink way too much coffee, and need to substitute with this!
I’m very glad you’re came here too Rylee. 🙂

I’m glad you found this post on ashwagandha, Katy and glad you are inspired to learn more about the benefits.
I never knew you needed to pair turmeric with black pepper, is that true for turmeric supplements also? I’d like to know more about it reversing forgetfulness, can you steer me to research?
Julie that is true. Adding black pepper to turmeric, helps the body absorb the curcumin/turmeric efficiently. And there have been studies that prove that it helps with memory issues.
Wow! I need to try this! Thank you for the explanation of tea.
You’re welcome Kristine.
