Today’s blog post will show you how to make water alkaline with Ayurveda techniques.  The grocery store shelves once typically consisted of spring, drinking, and purified water.  Over the course of the past decade, you can now find among them alkaline water which has a higher pH level than regular drinking water.  At around 8 pH level, alkaline water is said to improve digestion and is more hydrating.

To make alkaline water, you can simply squeeze lemon or lime juice in your water and stir well.  Your body will metabolize the lemon despite its acidic nature.  You can also add minerals such as pink Himalayan salt or aluminum-free baking soda to your water which will increase the pH level in the water.  Always stir before drinking.

HOW TO MAKE WATER ALKALINE WITH AYURVEDA HERBS

Did you know that you can make water alkaline with Ayurveda herbs?  In addition to the above techniques to make alkaline water, you can use Indian Gooseberry which is commonly referred to as amla.  Amla is rich in vitamin C and has alkalizing properties.  If using fresh amla, place it in a blender with water until the consistency is a smooth paste.  Add a portion of the mixture to your glass of water and stir well.  You can also use powdered amla and follow the same steps.

Using coriander seeds is another good way to make alkaline water.  Coriander seeds are a very popular and valuable herb used in Ayurveda.  It supports digestive health, detoxification, and reduces inflammation. Coriander is very versatile and has many uses such as in spice blends during cooking, herbal supplements, and teas just to name a few.  To create your alkaline water, simply soak a tablespoon of the seeds in an eight- ounce glass of water overnight or for eight hours.  After eight hours, strain the seeds and keep the water.  Your alkaline water is now ready.

SIMPLE WAYS TO CREATE ALKALINE WATER WITH VEGETABLES

Some people are advised to not consume herbs such as amla and coriander if they are allergic.  This is a legitimate reason to search for other ways to make alkaline water using vegetables along with minerals.  Three simple vegetables you can use are cucumber, kale and spinach.

Cucumbers are very hydrating and adding this to water will raise the pH level to 5.5 to 7.   You should add pink Himalayan salt or baking soda to help raise it.  Keep in mind to avoid over-alkalizing the water.  Using these minerals in moderation is important in maintaining optimal health.  The same is true for spinach which is neutral.  Kale has a slightly lower pH level but is a good source to add to water to help its overall alkalinity.  Combining these three vegetables along with a few mints in a blender can make a delicious and refreshing smoothie to help you with your overall wellness.

ALKALINE WATER TESTING AND PH LEVEL STRATEGIES

There are various ways to test the pH level of water to ensure its alkalinity.   Most people test the pH level of water due to health concerns, to test the water quality for human consumption and to ensure a safe environment for aquatics.

Testing for health concerns is not abnormal for people who require more hydration, improvement in their digestion and to reduce inflammation in their body.  People with chronic issues in these areas have to report to their health provider on a more consistent basis.  Having a strategy to ensure they are drinking water with the required pH level makes their process in getting better that much easier.

We will discuss two ways I have personally been able to test water.  I’ll tell you all about my experience with pH test strips and electronic pH meters.

TEST THE PH LEVEL IN WATER USING A PH TEST STRIP

The most affordable and accessible way to test the alkalinity of water is using a pH test strip.  You can find these in your local garden store, pharmacy, natural health food store, or online store. Read the instructions carefully before using and have your supplies ready before testing.  This will ensure a proper reading for your water.

I wanted to learn firsthand the different methods of testing the alkalinity in water.  I searched high and low for places that provided this service in-house.  Finally, I came across one facility that was also a health food store in California.  I set up a meeting with the owner and traveled for a few hours to see firsthand the process.  I was surprised at how simple the process was.

TEST THE PH LEVEL IN WATER USING AN ELECTRONIC PH METER

Besides pH test strips, this facility had an electronic pH meter.  The meter was placed in a glass of water that tested each water.  You can see the process demonstrated in the photo above.  The owner showed me how they researched on various brands of water bottles.  They tested each and created a visual banner for their customers.  As you can see from the image below, the bottles are listed from the least alkaline to the most alkaline water.  Check to see where the water you drink stands out from the rest and let me know your thoughts.

HOW TO MAKE WATER ALKALINE USING REVERSE OSMOSIS

There are advanced water filtration systems that remove impurities and contaminants from water beside your at-home pitcher filters.  At the health food store, two very large reverse osmosis systems cleaned the water and had a remineralization stage that reintroduced the minerals such as calcium and magnesium that were removed in the first phase.

The pH level of water after it goes through the reverse osmosis system is lowered to about 6 as it strips the water of everything.  It’s not designed to separate the good from the bad so adding back the minerals is important to make it alkaline.  The next step is to use the test trips or electronic pH meter to ensure that the water is in fact alkaline.  This process was exciting to witness.

AYURVEDIC WISDOM AND MODERN CHEMISTRY CAN MAKE WATER ALKALINE

Blending the ancient practices of Ayurveda as you can see will help you make water alkaline.  And using modern chemistry such as the use of reverse osmosis can yield alkaline water when used correctly.  Whether remineralizing water or infusing nutrient- rich herbs and vegetables, you can reach the desired pH level in your water.  Drinking quality water is vital and I hope you can find the opportunity to try any of these methods.

HOW TO MAKE ALKALINE WATER AT HOME

Below are a few recipes to make alkaline water at home using herbs and vegetables.  Remember to keep the testing devices nearby to ensure your desired pH levels.  Add any minerals or vegetables described within this blog post to get your desired alkalinity score.

You can also use watermelon juice as your base to create an alkaline water.  Although watermelon juice has a pH score of 5.8 on its own, you can add the juice of a lime, cucumber, and mint leaves to boost the pH.  This has been a favorite all-around hydrating and potassium-rich drink that anyone would enjoy.  Read more on other recipes and benefits of watermelon juice on this blog site.  The article is simply titled, 5 RECIPES AND BENEFITS OF WATERMELON JUICE.  Click on the link and you will be redirected to the post that is full of information and simple recipes.  Feel free to print the below recipe for a new watermelon drink recipe.
